Employee Spotlight on Nanz Lim

Employee Spotlight on Nanz Lim

Meet the humans behind Thunes. Our Employee Spotlight series gives you a glimpse into the unique and personal journeys of our team members.

At Thunes, every role contributes to our mission of building smarter ways to move money around the world. In this spotlight, we’re proud to introduce one of the product leaders driving the design and development of our Smart Superhighway to move money around the world. Meet our Head of Product for Core and Growth Platforms, Nanz Lim, a Thunester who’s been helping shape how we build and scale for nearly six years.

Building From the Ground Up

“As Head of Product for Core and Growth Platforms, I focus on taking products from 0 to 1, designing customer-centric experiences, and building internal tools that improve how we operate – all in service of making cross-border payments more accessible, reliable, and scalable for the world.

I joined Thunes shortly after our Series A fundraise, nearly six years ago (yes, SIX!), and what a journey it’s been.

At every step in my career a new door has opened. I started in digital banking, where I realised that cross-border payments were often treated as an afterthought. But to me, they were full of untapped potential. That realisation eventually led me here at Thunes, where I saw an opportunity to build a truly global payment network, not just patch together existing pipes. Nearly six years on, I’m still here because we’re still building, and the mission still matters.”

First Love Projects

“‘First love projects’ are hard to forget. One that stays with me is the buildout of our onboarding platform. Just two months in, the world was hit by COVID. But our team based in China, who were already well-versed in remote work, kept going.

What started as a compliance tool became a full-fledged, in-house onboarding platform serving our Compliance, Treasury, and Ops teams. It now rivals some market-specialised products, but more than that, it showed me what Thunes is made of: speed, resilience, customer obsession, and the grit to build things that last.”

Living Our Values

“What I enjoy most about Thunes’ culture is our diversity. We are over 60 nationalities strong. This is about more than where we’re from; it’s how we think, collaborate, and solve problems.

It forces you to communicate clearly, challenge your assumptions, and learn from people with vastly different lived experiences. That blend of global perspective and local depth is one of our superpowers in building payment products that actually work for real people, in real markets.”

Words of Wisdom for Future Thunesters

“If you’re considering a career at Thunes, come curious. Stay humble. And don’t be afraid to stretch.

This isn’t a place where you’ll coast. We’re moving fast, solving complex problems, and doing it across time zones and cultures.

If you geek out over how money moves and enjoy learning from brilliant people who might also school you on their hometown’s best food, Thunes is your kind of place. As well as moving funds, we move ideas, relationships, and sometimes even mountains (payments ones, anyway!).”

Unforgettable Moments?

“There’s been too many to count, but the best moments tend to involve good food, great company, and long conversations on the road.

Thunes Together, our company-wide offsite, stands out: a gathering of minds (and appetites), where new ideas are sparked and lifelong friendships are formed.

It’s a rare thing to feel at home in a room of 200 or more people from all over the world, but somehow, it just works.”

A Passion Beyond Payments

“I’m an AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego), and I fully embrace it. To me, Lego is more than plastic bricks, it’s a mindset. Whether I’m designing modular buildings or building mini cities to celebrate Thunes offices, I see product thinking everywhere: structure, storytelling, systems, and surprises.

For my five-year milestone at Thunes, I even built a custom Lego tribute to our global offices in a passion project that brought together my two worlds.

My ultimate goal? To go on the Lego Inside Tour, the pilgrimage for grown-up Lego geeks. One day!”
